Sidhe Rising ch 14 NaNo 2007

Well last night before going ot bed I did it I broke the 50K word finish line, of course it will only be official when this blog is posted and I got so caught up writing at work today that I will post an extra chapter tonight when I get home.

now this chapter more than likely will be pulled into another when the final re-write occurs but it was at a natural stopping point

No warnings in this one

Standing in the wardrobe Harry looked around for a sweater that Draco could wear, finding it he handed it over before sitting down and lacing up the knee high leather boots over his skin tight leather pants, he had come to lover the feel of skin tight leather on his body, if he was forced to wear cloths he was going to make sure it was as skin tight, smirking he could not wait to see how many people he made uncomfortable this year. Pulling two traveling cloaks off the rack he fastened one around Draco’s neck before fastening the one he chose for himself. Checking his reflection in the mirror he decided it would do.

Motioning Draco to follow him he left the ward robe and bent over and picked up the shrunken mirror and placed it in an inside pocket of his cloak and pulling Draco close placed the palm of his hand on the mirror leading to Sirius’s house. Waiting for the ripples to start Harry let his hand fall from Draco’s shoulder and rub the side of his belly, smiling when he felt his son kick. Mirror full of ripples “It’s time Draco, let’s get a move on, chances are the Weasley’s will be late as usual.”

Stepping out of the mirror into the Library at Black Cavern Harry looked around and spotted Remus coming through the door, “hey Remus where’s Sirius?”

Growling out, “the flea bitten mutt went ahead to Kings Cross to play watch bird.” Remus paced into the room and dropped several items on the table.

“Watch bird?” Draco asked as he looked towards harry, “Is cousin Sirius a bird Animagus then?”

Smirking, “NO, Sirius is a dog Animagus, back in seventh year McGonagall had gotten suspicious that the animals she had seen frolicking around too many times might be students, so that Yule break Sirius found this neat passage in one of the books in this library that stated that if an Animagus was transfigured into another animal they would not show up on the standard revealing spell and would be immune from being forced out of form,” Laughing Remus finished the story, “drove her bonkers trying to figure it out, and the look on her face when she hit James with the Animagus reversal was priceless.”

“Let me show you to the Floo room, you can only Apparate out by touching the fireplace, another strange security feature of the way over paranoid Black family,” Remus suggested as he walked to the door, along the way he told them what he had learned of the hidden village sized house meant to house the extended family during the times of the crusade and purgings.

Entering the small room Harry reached out and felt the energy surrounding him and tweaked it slightly so it would always recognize any Sidhe and give them total control of the wards allowing them entry in and out, later on he would explain what he did to Sirius and apologize if necessary, but today and for the immediate future he needed a back door in place just in case the Black Cavern was ever breached.

“Do you have everything Draco?” Remus asked as he pulled him in tight for side along Apparation. Receiving a nod from him Remus placed his hand on the fireplace and looking at Harry told him, “The floo destination is Kings Cross,” before Apparating the two of them towards their destination with a loud crack.

Not about to take that menace known as Floo travel, he hated the spinning and all the soot, Harry felt around for the energy connection through the floo network leading to Kings Cross and finding it he pulled at it and stepped into the glowing mass of energy called up by his will to appear a blink later in silence just one side of the fireplace that housed the floo.

Remus who had been looking at the floo in the hopes of seeing Harry tumble out as he always did watched in amazement as he popped into view several steps away from the fireplace, walking over with Draco in front of him he was about to ask how Harry pulled this new feat off he was interrupted with the Arrival of Neville and his formidable grandmother.

Neville who had greatly changed from the pudgy teen he was before the summer into the striking strong person in front of them now approached Harry and introduced his grandmother to him, “Gran this is Prince Harry, or as the press has been calling him the boy who is unbalanced,” he smirked.

Glancing around quickly and not seeing anyone nearby he cast a fast glare at his friend before acknowledging the woman, “hello Mrs. Longbottom it is nice to finally meet you,” Harry held out his hand in greeting.

Taking the hand in return Augusta bowed her head slightly, “It is nice to finally meet you Harry, I must apologize for my grandson, he seems to have grown a wicked sense of humor this summer under your cousin’s tutelage, though I must also include my thanks to you for all the help you have given my grandson.”

Smiling at Neville’s Gran, and relieved she thought he was joking by calling him a prince Harry vowed to corner his friend for a session of evil starring before asking him why he let that slip, “Neville’s my friend, and friends help each other, my cousin was already planning on teaching me this summer and it was not much of a stretch to add in a couple extra people, actually it helped in the long run having someone to practice on.” Harry was quite satisfied with himself seeing the pain flash across his friends face as he was reminded of all the times he played target this summer.

“Be that as it may you still have my thanks, and as I am also doing some extra work for my grandson this fall and it is just that easy to add you to the list, may I offer my services on procuring a list of suitable candidates to date and possibly more?” Augusta offered, pleased that Neville had almost got away with the blush from embarrassment, though if one knew where to look, inwardly she was laughing.

Cringing on the inside Harry promised to get retribution on Neville and maybe his grandmother also for embarrassing him, calmly as not showing any signs of embarrassment ‘Thank you for the offer Mrs. Longbottom but my cousin has already taken that task to heart and is in the search of someone of the proper station for me to meet.”

Truly mortified Neville moved in front of his grandmother “Gran I think we need to get to the train now, to make sure we get the car we are meeting Ron at.” Neville quickly tried to derail any further conversation between the two of them, know his Gran and Harry if the other purebloods heard what they would devolve into he would not be able to show his face in the great hall, “Professor Lupin is was nice seeing you again,” Pulling on the Glamour charmed Draco he called out, “Coming Harry.”

Blinking as Neville dragged Draco off he smiled then laughed, “I think Neville was scared that we would embarrass him to no end Mrs. Longbottom.” Waving at Remus he started towards the train leaving the laughing adults behind him.

Catching sight of Auror’s walking through the crowd checking students out evidently looking for someone he turned his head at the woofing caw of a bird which was pointing its wing towards a tall blond aristocrat near the front of the train. Letting Sirius know he heard by nodding his head Harry frowned when he saw how rough some of the Auror’s were being to the students and picked up the pace anger starting to settle in. He would kill the first person you harmed his Draco, catching up to Neville and Draco who had seen what was going on and slowing down, Neville took one look at Harry’s face and caught the pulsing glow that flickered several times around him and groaned.

Putting Draco between Harry and himself Neville caught the look of recognition from the tall black Auror when he looked in Harry’s direction, must be a member of the order he thought. Mimicking Harry’s movement by moving closer to Draco as the Auror stepped close Neville blocked the Auror’s arm as he made to push them apart, “Really are you being rude to everyone or only purebloods?” Neville ground out pompously.

“Now see here kid, move out of the way, you re interfering with Auror business,” The wizard in Auror robes snapped back.

By this time the Weasley’s had arrived and seeing what was going on the twins thinking quickly threw several filibusters in the trash receptacle and along with Ron surrounded Draco and Harry and in the Chaos the whole group escaped the Auror and boarded the train.

Sighing in relief “Fred, George I take it back the joke shop will be darned useful, “Ron opened the door to the compartment as he told his brothers this.

Draco sat on the floor between Harry’s legs, with all the rest piling in between Harry and him and the door, better protected that way and garnering what comfort he could as the students boarded the train, rushing around banging the doors open as they looked for their friends.

Pinning his prefects badge to his robe as the train started to leave the station Ron stood up, “harry just so you know Hermione is the other fifth year prefect, and she spent the last two weeks at the Burrow with Ginny, she is in a right huff not being able to talk to you and finding out you disappeared this summer, we told her that I was attending a special camp this summer, and of course the twins were never mentioned, so she is miffed that she could not go and expects me to teach her what I learned.”

“What dear Ronnie kin’s is trying to say is that dear Hermione is a pain in the…” Fred started but had to stop when George whacked him upside the head and took over the conversation, “Let’s just say that she outwore her welcome where the Weasley men are concerned and leave it at that Fred.”

Since they were occupying the compartment next to the prefect’s carriage Hermione watched as Ron walked out of one of the compartments and had turned and was talking to those inside, “There you are Ron, why didn’t you come to our compartment, I mean really you would think that being a prefect you would learn some responsibility…”

Jumping slightly at hearing the voice belonging to the person they were talking about Ron slammed the compartment door shut and twisted around, “sorry Hermione I was busy visiting a few friends and decided to go straight to the prefects meeting,” Ron waited for her to walk up to him back to the compartment door even though the blinds had been pulled, luckily she did not notice that he was guarding the door as they continued to walk down the aisle towards the front of the car.

An hour later the compartment door slid open slightly stopping all conversation and a note was thrown in as the door was quietly closed, they all could hear Hermione’s voice droning on about prefect duties and homework. Thankfully the voice was moving away from them.

Fed picking up the note since he was closest muttered, “She is going to be absolutely bonkers this term,” as he looked at the scrawl on the front of the note and then started to read it out loud. “Harry, just so you know no mention was made of Draco being missing this summer, though the head boy seemed very upset that he did not show up as he was named prefect this year. Hermione and I have prefect patrol for the next hour and I will try to sneak away, luckily we will not be patrolling this section of the train.”

Laughing, “p.s. do you think mum will be mad if I hex her,” Fred read the postscript before handing the letter to be passed on to Harry.

Reading the letter that Harry dropped in his lap Draco commented, “this is so not going to be pretty or end nicely is it?” After the comment Harry sat there running his hands through Draco’s hair as he tried to decide what he was going to do.

XXX

Hearing a knock at his door Katre looked up and noticed Deven standing there nervously, “Come in Deven, what can I do for you?”

Briskly striding the few steps needed to come into the office Deven went down to one knee head bowed, “My King.”

Frowning slightly as one of the first he had brought back into their heritage after Harry knelt there all silent and formal he tried to think what by the ancients he could want that would need for him to be so formal, “Rise Deven,” pointing to the chair next to the desk Katre simply told him to sit, “what’s on your mind, it must be something pretty important that you would go so formal.”

Fidgeting slightly and trying to find the words that would cause the least amount of pain if he screwed this up Deven haltingly spoke, “My king I would beseech thee to allow me to take a squad to protect Harry,” wincing his face up in pain he tried again, “Excuse my liege I meant to say to protect the King of the Unseelie, as until he has the time to rebuild the Sidhe in his court he is vulnerable.”

Katre studied the other as he took in the words being spoken and those not, he had noticed the past few months how close Harry and Deven had become and had hoped that one of them would take the first step to explore whether what was building could be something more permanent, Harry did after all need a strong consort to help him rule, a Sidhe that would be his anchor against the rage that all un-bonded Sidhe fell into form time to time. “Cut the formal crap Deven and tell me truly your wishes.”

Very nervous and looking liked a cage animal trying to find an escape route Deven finally slumped down in the chair in defeat, “My King, I…I feel a pull at my heart that leads to the King of the Unseelie…I…”

Taking some pity on the other Katre smiled, “you feel a pull like part of you is missing and is reaching for the missing piece.” He stated before standing up slowly so the other did not think he was about to attack, “I did not expect this to happen to any of the Sidhe so soon,” he said as he sat on the edge of the desk a hands breath away from the young man cringing in the chair.

“A mate bond is attempting to form between you and Harry,” Katre smiled at that thought as Deven sat up in shock. “I suppose that I should have expected that to happen sooner or later as our number practically doubles every day.”

“You are not angry with me?” Deven questioned like a small child finding out he was not about to be punished after all.

Beaming, smile so bright it could power a dozen planets Katre laughed, “Angry, ancients forbid, I am pleased and overjoyed. It means our people truly have come back if mate bonds are starting to form.”

Frowning Katre stood up and walked to the window overlooking the gardens, “There is a small problem though,” how best to fix this he thought.

Braver now that he knew he would not be rejected or punished for wishing to leave the High Court Deven broke in, “Small problem Sir?”

Turning back with a tired look in his eyes but a workable plan, ‘Yes Deven, remember back to the day we helped Harry move into his Sithen?” waiting for the nod of agreement before continuing, “I left the Sithen after supper and before we returned home and felt for the Calling.”

Seeing the confusion on Deven’s face Katre tried to put it into words the other could understand, “The Calling is a way for those of royal blood to send out and feel those Sidhe in the world, a way we can always know where are people are and if they are in trouble. In times past other Kings and Queens ignored and gave up this gift as they lost sight of why they ruled, the powers removed the gift lest it be abused.”

Sitting down in his chair might as well be comfortable for this part he thought, “I only felt, maybe twenty individuals in that whole world. In the back of my mind I had always hoped Harry would give up his world and gather those friends he thought were worthy and take up his court in our world.” Katre shook his head in amusement as he thought, he had dreamed of protecting Harry from those that had done so much to hurt him in his world that he had momentarily almost fallen into the trap others through time had. After all Harry was his own man and a King in his own right.

Deven was starting to panic slightly at hearing how few of the Sidhe had survived in Harry’s world, before he could let the panic take hold he was brought out of his thoughts as his King started to give commands.

“Contact Donnelley and tell him to step up recruitment efforts, tell him to center his searches on those with battle and healing skills.” Katre started to write from the pad he pulled out of his desk, trying to figure the best timetable, “find and train a second in command to take your place as weapons master,” looking up to catch the others eyes he told him, “make sure that we have several hundred ready at a moments notice to invade the area around where Harry is staying at that school if he calls us for help,” Katre sneered at the word school as he thought it certainly was not what he would call a school.

“I will talk to Harry tonight when he checks in and inform him the first fifty of the volunteers who wish to join his court shall be arriving in two weeks time, after that by Yule we shall have more ready to settle in his world,” Katre smiled as he stood up signaling the end of the interview, “After all unlike his world I have thousands in this that can have their heritage awoken.”
