House Elves a new take on the species

Let’s talk for a moment about house elves.

Almost every story line has them to some degree, especially since JKR has seen fit to have them show up in her stories in some fashion ever since book 2.

Almost every fanfic out there has copied to some degree the same mold, Dobby is a boy elf and Winky is a girl elf..

And a boy elf and girl elf is what it take to make more little elf’s.

And from there you add things to change the story of the house elves to suit your needs, like needing permission to have little children all the way to popping the little blighters out faster than you can say rabbit.

Now lets take my demented mind and really re-work the house elves to be a really unique species.

Lets say they have 4 sexes, that’s right 4. Un-fertile male and female drones and then fertile male drones and fertile female breeders called queens. A little bit of a hive structure if you will.

Now add a dash of touch telepathy, to promote learning and training up their youngsters in the way of magic and their duties to their masters and you start to see an interesting species start to evolve.

What would this species be like if the spells that enslaved the house elf was more of a re-direction of the hive and pack structure that was so strong of an instinct for the house elves.

Lets look at the subjugation of the house elves in the first place. If you were going to invest all the time effort and spell work into enslaving another race would you want to sell your product and then after a few years have to go and find something else to make money on or would you rather sell a product that must be replaced from time to time that you hold a monopoly on.

Now granted we are talking intelligent creatures here not some Toyota, but the principle is the same.

So what happens when you control your monopoly in such a way that there is only two places on the planet it is produced, two places behind the most powerful wards and protections available to you.

What happens after all the centuries knowledge was lost, critical knowledge on how the house elves came about and more important why certain steps are taken to make sure a queen never escapes custody.

What happens if in the distant future the heir to the breeding facilities and fortunes sees a way to make a large sum of money by selling the family business, but is planning a little deception that allows him to rebuild the facilities once again after a little sabotage of the original facilities leaves all the breeding stock unable to perform.

What happens when the greed leads one to try crossing a high Elf that is intent on setting free the queens.

What happens when the queens go free and chaos ensues because once free the can recall all the drones back to the nest.

Why you have several chapters in the new story I am writing that still needs a name other than A Journey through Time and Space.
